Hi there, I’m Brooke.
When I first became a Reiki Master Teacher, I agreed to use my Reiki in whatever way would best help this planet and all life on it. I started this Reiki website and began to teach in-person Reiki classes throughout Southern California and Big Sur. I loved it, but found myself wanting to reach all the people around the world who emailed me and wanted to learn Reiki but couldn’t physically come to my classes.
So I began to teach Reiki online over Skype to them. So, so special to connect with amazing humans from over 70 countries, including Zimbabwe, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Haiti, Brazil, Australia, South Korea, the UK, India, not to mention all the incredible students in the states!
But there were different time zones to deal with, and Internet connections that would go crazy when the Reiki started to flow. And I still wanted to reach a larger audience. So I filmed these online Reiki video courses in the red rocks of my beautiful Sedona. Now, you can learn Reiki on your own time, at your own pace, from anywhere in the world.
I put my heart and soul into these Reiki training classes and am so excited to share my knowledge of this beautiful Japanese healing art with you! So without further ado…

FROM THE MOUTHS OF REIKI PRACTITIONERS…
I am so thankful to Brooke!
Taking Reiki has been an amazing journey for my ten-year-old daughter and I. I have been doing a lot of Reiki to family members and friends. I love it and so do they!
What a great gift Brooke gave us.”
Learning Reiki from Brooke was one of the best experiences of my life and it changed me in many profound ways. Her Reiki book feels very soothing and peaceful, and knowing Brooke, that is because it is infused with her essence…she truly “walks her talk” and is one of the kindest and most loving people I know.
If you want to learn the basics of Reiki, I strongly recommend her book. And if you decide to take a Reiki class, there is no better teacher out there to learn from than Brooke!”
I can’t find the words to express how thankful I am that I found Brooke’s Reiki classes.
She is a wonderful Master Teacher and also an amazing person.
Brooke has helped me in more ways than she’ll ever know. She truly is a blessing to so many people.”
A crash course in all things Reiki
What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ray–kee) is a Japanese healing method developed by Dr. Mikao Usui around 1922. In Japanese, the word Reiki means “universal life force energy”, and Dr. Usui based his system of natural healing around harnessing that life force energy that exists all around us to use for healing.
Once someone has been attuned to Reiki, which means they’ve received a Reiki attunement and had the ability to channel Reiki activated within them, they become a Reiki practitioner and can act as a conduit for the healing Reiki energy to flow through.
The Reiki practitioner can flow this universal energy to themselves for self-healing, to other people, animals and situations, and even to objects. Reiki works on anything that vibrates, which is basically everything in our multi-verse!
Since Reiki practitioners often put their hands in different positions on a person’s body during Reiki sessions, many people refer to Reiki as “hands-on-healing”. Physical touch isn’t necessary to send a person Reiki, however, since space and time are really just constructs of our mind and don’t exist outside of it.
In the energetic reality we live in, everything is made up of energy, and the same one energy at that. We are all little pieces of the whole. There is only one energy expressing itself in countless ways, so everything is everywhere at the same exact time. Everything at its core is the same one thing, always existing in the eternal present.
If that makes no sense to you whatsoever, fret not. It’s not like we learn this in school! Yet. Rumor has it from higher sources that the schools of tomorrow will be very different than those of today.
How does Reiki work?
There’s a whole chapter on this very topic in the PDF of my Reiki book that you can download when you sign up for my free Reiki newsletter, but honestly, we can really only take our best guess.
When a Reiki practitioner turns on their Reiki, they tap into an energetic flow guided by Spirit, God, All That Is, the One Creation… whatever name resonates with you. The Reiki practitioner is not doing the healing; they are just a hose for the healing energy to flow through. So, we don’t even need to know how Reiki works to see its effects and know it definitely does!
But I will try to explain the phenomenon scientifically with my non-scientific mind. : ) Everything that exists is made up of energy, meaning every single thing vibrates and emits and projects a frequency out into the world. As humans, our authentic nature is to vibrate at the same rapid frequency as All That Is.
But as a result of our life experiences (parental expectations, societal conditioning, things not turning out the way we want, etc. etc.) our natural vibration often begins to slow down. We start to believe false things about ourselves and how the world works, and those incorrect thought forms create painful emotions inside of us. We typically then shove those difficult feelings deep down inside ourselves instead of feeling them, since who wants to do that? Much easier to distract ourselves and eat, drink, buy, watch or read something.
Those feelings we don’t feel stick around in our bodies, however, and form energetic blockages that prevent our energy from flowing freely. If we tote this stagnant energy around long enough, it eventually creates physical problems. Hence a common saying in Reiki circles that “our issues are in our tissues.”
Luckily, in comes Reiki to the rescue! The Reiki energy has such a high frequency that it moves through our body and dislodges, transmutes and clears away any energetic “traffic jams.” Without those blocks, energy can freely move through us and we become much lighter and more “in tune” with our true frequency of pure Source energy.
What Can Learning Reiki Do For You?
The whole point of us being here in this particular body, with this particular personality, for this brief millisecond of “time”, is for us to be the best, most vibrant version and expression of ourselves we can possibly be.
We aren’t meant to suffer while we’re here; we came to be ourselves as only we can. This is the lifetime to live free and liberate ourselves of outdated energetic patterns once and for all.
There’s no room anymore for our perceived limitations that come from any number of sources: childhood wounds, mind control from the powers that be, marketing designed to make us believe we’re not enough, Facebook and Instagram inciting comparison and giving us a distorted version of reality with every scroll… the list goes on and on.
When you learn Reiki, those false, self-imposed constraints start to fall away. You give yourself the gift of clear vision and you learn to become more YOU. Beautiful. Alive. Free.
As Tom Petty said in Wildflowers, “You belong somewhere you feel free.” First, you plant the Reiki seed in your mind for inner freedom. Then, with a consistent Reiki self-practice, you cultivate that seed. You nourish it and get to see it blossom and grow.
Once the Reiki clears away all the nonsense that prevents you from seeing all that you are, you start to remember your magnificence. You begin to own your light and be proud of just how bright you shine.
You know, no big deal. : )
How can you use your Reiki training?
- To heal yourself (since you are the only one who can anyway)
- To help others heal themselves
- On animals
- On situations (past, present and future)
You can use what you learn in your Reiki course training literally every single day of your life, multiple times a day. The Reiki energy works on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual issues. You can help your friends and family (of both the people and animal varieties), you can power up your food with Reiki, you can clear rooms (or entire buildings) with Reiki, you can bring more peace, joy and light into your life… I seriously use my Reiki constantly.
Is there a ton of traffic on the freeway? I activate the Safe Clearing Reiki Symbol to help free up the path.
When I had job interviews in the past (nowadays, gracias a Dios my only job is to keep my vibration as high as possible and remind people of their true nature,) I would send Reiki ahead of time to both the interview itself and the people in it using the Long-Distance Reiki Symbol you learn in a Reiki II class.
In one interview, the woman hired me on the spot. She kept saying, “I just don’t know what it is, but I get such a good feeling about this.” Inside, I was like, “You may not know what it is, but I do.” ; )
Maybe your ankle hurts. You can send Reiki to it and see if the time it takes to heal doesn’t substantially decrease. Or if you’re a budding gardener, you can Reiki your crops and watch Reiki work its magic in the plant kingdom.
If only everyone were attuned to the powerful Reiki energy. What a world it would be. Luckily, we’re getting there! The kids these days, I tell you. Their natural healing abilities are something else. Light years ahead of us, that’s for sure.
Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of Usui Reiki Shiki Ryoho
Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist, developed the practice of Reiki around 1922. He received the inspiration to create his system of natural healing after he spent 21 days in meditation on the mountaintop of Mt. Kurama-yama.
Since Dr. Usui was well-traveled and had experienced many different healing modalities, he incorporated all that he learned into his method, which he called Usui Reiki Shiki Ryoho. Usui Reiki Shiki Ryoho uses the power of working with your ki (life force energy) as well as five Reiki principles.
Like every visionary that decides to visit our planet, Dr. Usui was determined to spread what he had to offer to as many people as possible. Though he only lived a few years after he created Usui Reiki Shiki Ryoho, Dr. Usui attuned and taught over 2,000 people how to use Reiki.
The Five Reiki Principles
Dr. Mikao Usui gave us five Reiki ideals to live by. Since he knew that our thoughts and emotions directly affect our physical body, he gave us these principles to help us train our minds to think more positively. (I added the italics.)
The Five Reiki Principles:
Just for today, I will not be angry. Letting go of anger brings peace.
Just for today, I will not worry. Letting go of worry brings trust.
Just for today, I am grateful. Being grateful brings contentment.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly. Doing honest work brings purpose.
Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing. Being kind adds love to your life.
What is a Reiki Training Class?
A Reiki training class is an experience where you become attuned to the Reiki energy and learn how to flow Reiki through your body. You also learn different Reiki symbols (each symbol has its own unique signature vibration) as well as more about the different Reiki concepts and teachings.
What to look for in a Reiki training class or course
The article How to Find the Right Online Reiki Course goes into much more detail, but here are a few things to think about:
- Do you get a good vibe from the teacher? The word vibe is short for vibration, which, after all, is what Reiki is all about. So trust whatever you intuitively pick up.
- Does the price for the Reiki course work for you? How does it compare to other training courses?
- Can you read testimonials from previous Reiki students or those currently taking the training?
Of course, goes without saying that I would love to have you in any of my online Reiki classes!
Are online Reiki classes as good as in-person Reiki courses?
They definitely can be! An online Reiki class can be just as good (if not better!) than one you would take in-person. Basically, it depends on whether you want the flexibility of learning Reiki online versus being physically there in an actual Reiki class.
Read an article comparing online Reiki classes to in-person Reiki courses.
Personally, whenever I learn anything, the teacher always makes or breaks the class. My Anatomy teacher in massage school (Damian Matthews at The Sedona School of Massage) was the best! Now I’m sure Anatomy is a subject many people find fascinating; I just don’t happen to be one of them. But thanks to Damian, Anatomy was one of my favorite classes.
People often ask me if a Reiki attunement will work long-distance, The answer is yes, absolutely.
Like I said above, what we’ve been taught about time and space and our existence isn’t exactly true. Energy travels instantaneously across any distance and cuts through seemingly “solid” objects like buildings and steel with ease.
For example, have you ever thought of someone you haven’t talked to in years and then they call you the next day? Essentially, you sent energy their way… they unconsciously received it… and then that energy gave them the urge to call you.
Amazing, right? That’s just how this whole energy thing works!
The Levels or Degrees of Reiki
In traditional Usui Reiki Shiki Ryoho, Reiki classes are typically divided into three separate levels or degrees: Reiki I, Reiki II and the Reiki Master level.
Many online and in-person Reiki classes allow you to reach the Reiki Master Level very quickly. Even so, you may want to allow a little time to pass between each degree before you move on to the next level Reiki course.
There are many reasons I suggest you take your time, but the main one is so you get a chance to integrate that level of Reiki into your being. When you give yourself time to fully immerse yourself, you can develop a relationship with the symbols in that level You also gain the invaluable wisdom that only comes from practical application, experience and time.
When you allow a little while (even just a month) between each level of Reiki, you also give yourself time for the 21-day healing process that often comes after a Reiki attunement. During those 21 days, you clear out a lot of old “stuff” so your body can hold more light energy.
So, let your body absorb the healing that comes from each Reiki attunement. Give yourself time to process the changes you’re creating for yourself. After all, life is a journey, not a destination, right?
A Level I Reiki Training Course
In a Level I Reiki class, you receive a Reiki attunement that activates your ability to channel the Reiki healing energy. You delve into the history of Reiki and learn more about Dr. Mikao Usui. You also work with the five Reiki principles and learn how to give yourself as well as another person a complete Reiki treatment.
Some Reiki Master Teachers attune students to Reiki symbols in a Reiki I training, while others wait until a Reiki II class to attune students to symbols. In my online Reiki I course training, I attune you to the Reiki Power Symbol, the Peace Symbol and the Centering/ Grounding Symbol.
I attune you to these three Reiki symbols in the Level I training so you get used to incorporating Reiki symbols into your sessions right from the start. Also, the symbols are just so powerful! I want you to have access to them right away so you can start to work with each symbol’s subtle energy and unique frequency.
A Level II Reiki Training Course
Now, I love all three levels of Reiki. Each degree offers you something – in Reiki I you build your relationship with Reiki, in Reiki II you deepen it and in the Reiki Master Teacher training you master it. But that being said, I think the Reiki Level II class is my favorite!
In Reiki II, you become attuned to the Long Distance Healing Reiki Symbol, the Mental/Emotional Symbol, the Karma Clearing Symbols, the Divine Mother and Father Symbols, the Manifestation Symbol and many others.
You learn how to send Reiki back into your “past” to do away with anything that was never really yours to begin with but was lingering anyway. You also learn how to clear old karmic patterns and behaviors as well as how to use Reiki to consciously manifest what you want to see in your life experience.
In Reiki II, we delve deep into the chakras and crystals. You also learn how to program a Reiki pendulum and use it as a tool to enhance your healing sessions. In my humble, the Reiki II online class is just so fun!
The more you use what you learn in each level of Reiki, the stronger your Reiki becomes.
A Level III Reiki Master Teacher Training Course
Of course, every Reiki Master Teacher teaches his or her courses differently. But in my Reiki Master Teacher Level III training course, you are attuned to all the Reiki symbols I know (33+ symbols,) including three versions of the Reiki Master Symbol.
The symbols you learn come from multiple Reiki traditions, including Usui Reiki, Karuna Reiki, Tibetan Reiki, Ananda Ray and Seichim Reiki.
After your Reiki Master Teacher course, you will know how to attune other people up to the Reiki Master Level. You will also know how to give permanent in-person and long-distance attunements as well as 24 hour temporary attunements.
As a Reiki Master Teacher, you deepen and enhance your Reiki practice and sessions exponentially. I could literally feel myself vibrating for an entire week when I first became a Reiki Master!

The Animal Reiki Training Class
Now I know I said Reiki II was my favorite class to teach, but truth be told, nothing compares to the Animal Reiki online course training.
Just like Reiki helps people physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, it helps animals the same way. Generally speaking, unless an animal is wild or has had bad experiences with humans in the past, they are typically very open to receiving Reiki.
Since they don’t have the same resistance we often do – thanks to our good ole’ egos – most animals love to receive Reiki. Whenever I leave a Reiki class or session, the animals I encounter are usually all over me! Especially cats; cats can’t get enough.
The gentle, healing Reiki energy helps both healthy animals and those that need special care or assistance. For healthy animals, Reiki offers them a profound sense of relaxation and well-being. For sick animals or those with emotional or behavioral issues, Reiki promotes healing. It’s a wonderful complement to Eastern medicine as well as the Western, uh, business of medicine. : ) Sorry, couldn’t resist.
For animals leaving their physical bodies, Reiki offers them great comfort and helps ease any pain they feel. It also helps their families with mourning and acceptance.
In the online Animal Reiki course, you learn:
- How to give a complete Animal Reiki session
- About cat, dog and horse chakras in great detail
- How to invite in animal spirit medicine (even though they call all the shots)
- How to communicate telepathically with animals
- How to use Reiki for animals and their families when they leave this world
You also can access the Guided Meditation to Connect with Animal Spirits featuring amazing Native American flute player David “White Cloud” Burkhart as many times as you like.
The attunement you receive in your Reiki course
Your Reiki attunement will vary according to the class level (Reiki I, II or the Master class) as well as the type of Reiki (Usui, Tibetan, Karuna, etc.) Nowadays, there are about 50 different types of Reiki out there!
Each Reiki Master Teacher also has his or her own style of teaching and doing attunements. For an in-person class, your teacher will create a sacred space for your attunement to take place. If you take your Reiki course online, you want to make a relaxed, comfortable setting for yourself where you won’t be disturbed.
While each Reiki attunement inevitably differs, there are some commonalities. The Reiki Master Teacher giving your attunement will ask that you take off your shoes, sit in an upright position and close your eyes.
You may feel air going into your head and the Reiki Master touching your hands and feet during your attunement. Your Reiki attunement may be as short as five minutes or it may take up to 20 minutes. Your sense of how much time has passed during the attunement may be distorted as well, since you often enter an altered reality where time feels different and can appear to speed up or slow down.
Everyone’s experience with a Reiki attunement is different and unique to them. You may feel nothing at all, or you may feel powerful sensations as the universal life force energy enters your body. After your attunement, you may be totally energized or completely wiped out.
Whatever you feel (or don’t feel) is absolutely perfect. We always get what we need from a Reiki attunement (and in life, too!) Even if it doesn’t always feel that way. But we are always on our path. I personally am so happy that my path includes Reiki!
To ensure that the Reiki attunement process continues to be a sacred activation where the Reiki transfers properly, only Reiki Masters can give Reiki attunements.
So take the Reiki Master Teacher course when you feel ready why don’t you…
What to expect after your Reiki attunement
Again, everyone experiences a Reiki attunement differently. You may feel your Reiki I attunement very strongly, but your Reiki II atunement not as much or vice versa.
Just like the attunement experience, the days following a Reiki attunement differ as well depending on your unique vibrational makeup and current state of energetic affairs.
The Reiki energy is pure light and has such a high frequency that when it enters your body, it brings to the surface any lower-vibrational energies within you so you can transform and alchemize them. Energy never dies or goes away; it merely changes form and shifts from one frequency to another.
Let’s talk about the 21 day Reiki “healing crisis” (i.e. the process of bringing those lower vibrations to the light in the days following your Reiki attunement.)
The 21 day Reiki attunement “healing crisis”
When you receive a Reiki attunement, a powerful influx of Reiki energy enters your body and circulates throughout your entire being. Every cell, every atom, every molecule of your “physical” structure changes (put in quotes because quantum physicists now know what we think of as “physical” isn’t nearly as dense as previously thought.) Every part of you adjusts, recalibrates and literally forms itself anew.
Because of this, you may experience strong emotions and sensations during the first 21 days after your Reiki attunement, as those lower vibrations rise to the forefront of your consciousness for you to transmute.
Since our bodies have seven main energy centers (a.k.a. chakras,) the Reiki circulates through each of these chakras for three days after your Reiki attunement. Multiply 7 x 3 and that’s where we get the 21 days.
For example, while the Reiki moves through your Manipura Chakra (your navel point chakra that relates to personal power, will, confidence and self-esteem,) issues you have surrounding these areas will arise.
Just as an aside, we have an equally powerful eighth chakra, a.k.a. our aura. As the electromagnetic field that surrounds our body in every direction, our aura is an extremely powerful energy center in its own right and contains elements of all the other chakras.
I can definitely attest to going through the 21 day healing crisis with each Reiki attunement I received, although I wouldn’t necessarily say they only lasted 21 days. Try a few years : )
I did notice that the Reiki seemed to move like clockwork every three days to the next chakra during the first 21 days, though, as I experienced the “joy” of working through the stuff in each chakra.
I actually didn’t know about the healing crisis until I was in the throes of it after my Reiki I attunement. I literally thought I was losing my mind!
Luckily, my friend who was already a Reiki practitioner explained it to me. Sure enough, all my issues around creativity and relationships were coming up right as the Reiki was circulating through my sacral chakra.
Knowing that what I felt was an actual “thing” and very temporary definitely made it easier to get through. Besides, I guess I had to experience it first before I could ever possibly help anyone else move through it, right?
I like to tell Reiki students to also stay open to the possibility they may not experience a healing crisis at all. Regardless of what does or doesn’t happen, you can rest assured your body is adjusting itself to hold more light energy.
Tips to get through a possible Reiki healing crisis
Though the days following your Reiki attunement may be challenging, these tips can help you not only survive, but thrive. After all, this is an amazing opportunity to get to know yourself on a deeper level than ever before.
1. Send yourself Reiki every day.
This doesn’t mean you have to give yourself a full Reiki treatment using all the hand positions each day. Although, hey, if you have the time, why not?
But even letting your hands fall where they may when you go to sleep at night and turning your Reiki for a couple minutes before you fall asleep is doing yourself a great service.
2. Keep a journal about your experiences.
Writing is the ultimate therapy. You can get your feelings out, out, out so they’re not stored in your body as energy blockages. Write knowing no one will ever read it. Write with your eyes closed. Rip it up immediately afterward. But write anyway.
Write hard and clear about what hurts. – Ernest Hemingway
3. Talk to the Reiki Master teaching your Reiki class.
Whether you take an in-person or an online Reiki class, you should have the full support of the Reiki Master teaching your course. He or she has undoubtedly gone through the same process you’re going through and can be an excellent resource.
Your Reiki Master Teacher can help you gain perspective about what’s happening and also reassure you you’re not going crazy : ), which is seriously the most common thing students ask me about in the days after their attunement.
I always respond with something to the effect of: “No, you’re not going crazy. You’re actually more sane than you’ve been in a long time. Hiding your true self from other people, not to mention yourself? Now that’s crazy.”
4. Interact with the Reiki community
Sharing your experiences with other people going through the same thing can give you support and encouragement. In my Reiki I online video course, students can leave their comments, questions and experiences below each section of the class.
When you talk with other Reiki practitioners, you get valuable feedback about how they got through their own attunements and may also discover ways to do things you wouldn’t have thought of on your own.
5. Remember this too shall pass
The only constant is change, isn’t that what they say? All those times you’ve been sad or frustrated or upset, well you made it through every of them, right?
That’s what I always remind myself of during challenging times. Yes, I will get through this. And YES, I will be so much stronger and more empowered on the other side.
What you need for a Reiki training course
Regarding of whether you take an in-person or online Reiki course, you want to take these things along with you:
- Your heart, your soul and an open mind
- Comfortable clothes (i.e. no tight belts, pants or bras that will restrict your breath or prevent the healing Reiki energy from flowing through you)
- Clean feet, since you take off your shoes during your Reiki attunement
- If you are taking a Reiki Level II training course, pictures of loved ones to send Reiki to.
- For a Reiki Master Teacher training, objects to imbue with Reiki.
Creating sacred space during an online Reiki course or Reiki healing sessions
The first thing you want to do before you practice Reiki is create a relaxed, healing environment. Luckily, you can create sacred space anywhere! Everything is sacred after all.
If you’re taking an online Reiki I video course at home, you can light candles, make some tea, sit in a crystal grid, or simply take a moment to center and ground yourself before you “tune in” to the class. (Haha, a little Reiki humor.)
If you’re getting ready to give a Reiki healing treatment, low lighting, crystal salt lamps, small water fountains, essential oil diffusers, candles, relaxing music… all these work wonders and can really set the mood. You always want your clients to feel safe, supported and light years away from their perceived worries and stresses of the day.
You can use sage, sweetgrass and palo santo to clear the space of any unwanted energies.
However, while accoutrements (God I love that word) like singing bowls, music and candles can definitely enhance your Reiki sessions, they’re not necessary. I once did an in-person attunement and didn’t have time to set the space the way I usually do (with white lights around the chair, crystals, etc.) I was upset, but that Reiki attunement ended up being one of the most powerful I’ve ever done!
The lesson: Intention is everything when it comes to Reiki. There’s nothing we have to do except relax and be the channel for the Reiki. 3D third dimensional physical things are fun, but truth be told, we do just fine on our own.
The Reiki Disclaimer
Before you send Reiki or start a Reiki healing session, you want to mentally say the Reiki Disclaimer. You can use the person’s name or a generic disclaimer like:
Anything and everything (3 times), you are free to accept or reject this Reiki. Reiki is healing, harmonizing and balancing.
When you use the Reiki disclaimer, you ensure that you don’t accrue any unwanted karma by sending Reiki to someone who doesn’t want to receive it for whatever reason.
Complementary modalities to add into your Reiki practice
You can use what you learn in your Reiki training courses with literally any other healing modality you can think of.
- Traditional Western medicine
- Chinese medicine and acupuncture
- Physical therapy and personal training
- Other forms of energywork and bodywork techniques
- Sound healing
- Just being a human on this planet
Adding crystal healing to your Reiki practice
There are hundreds of different types of crystals, and each one has its own energetic properties and is known for helping with certain issues. Any crystals you use will amplify the Reiki and bring its unique frequency to the table. And if you infuse and imbue it with Reiki before the treatment too? Forget about it.
You can wear crystals as jewelry when you send Reiki, keep them in your pockets, or gently place them on the person’s body. You can also design a crystal grid under your portable Reiki table before you start a healing session to strategically flow the energy in the direction you want.
Our eight chakras each have a different color associated with them. Since the color white contains the frequencies of every color within it, you can use a white crystal like selenite if you don’t quite know which crystal to use.
You may start a Reiki treatment using a certain crystal, but as the session goes on, you no longer feel like the crystal needs to be part of the session. The person may have absorbed all the healing they could from the stone at that time. Use your intuition and discretion to determine if you should gently remove the crystal from the person or the crystal grid without disturbing the energy.
Regardless of how you use crystals in your Reiki healing sessions, I bet once you start, you won’t stop. Since they have their own consciousness, the crystals may even talk to you! They are just frozen light after all. We are living light, and they are frozen light. Same same.
Sometimes, I don’t have a particular crystal with me but get an intuitive hit to use it during a Reiki session. When that happens, I just visualize myself leaving my body, going home to get the crystal, and bringing it back to the treatment. Intention is a huge part of Reiki. Add intention to the fact we are supremely powerful beings, and we can create anything we want.
Adding color therapy to your Reiki sessions
Color therapy is the practice of adding color into a person’s energy field to promote healing. Just like crystals, different colors have different healing properties and work well with different chakras in our chakra system.
The color blue, for example, has a cooling effect and works really well on areas with swelling or inflammation. If the person on your Reiki table is angry and you feel hot energy emanating from them, you can send focused blue energy to help them calm down and “chill”.
If you keep being intuitively drawn to a person’s heart during a Reiki treatment, you can send green and pink energies, the colors associated with the heart chakra.
If you learned the Heart Healing or Unconditional Love Reiki symbols in your Reiki class, you can send those as well. Approaching an issue from various angles only makes a Reiki session that much more effective.
Enhancing your Reiki training with aromatherapy
People around the world have used aromatherapy for thousands of years to heal countless ailments. Peppermint, for example, is very beneficial for headaches as well as for feeling more alert. If a client arrives noticeably stressed out or anxious for their Reiki session, some soothing lavender oil might do the trick and calm their mind. By the way, if you’ve taken an online Reiki II class and know the Distance Healing Symbol, you can send Reiki to your clients while they’re en route to see you.
You always want to ask clients beforehand if they want aromatherapy and make sure they aren’t allergic to the oils you plan to use.
A “Reiki List”
How great would it be if we had time to send Reiki all day erry day to everyone who could use it? Maybe if we lived in another time period… even though I believe our soul is living in other time periods in other lives at this exact moment in space time.
But in this life, we are always our unique self, a magic that will never happen again. And in this life, it can be hard to every remember all the people/animals/places/situations/what have you we want to send Reiki to!
So, in comes a “Reiki list”, where you make a list of everyone and everything you want to offer Reiki. You set the intention that when you turn on your Reiki, everything on the list will receive the healing it needs. If you send Reiki to your list each day, you offer yourself up as a channel for the Reiki to cover them all in one fell swoop.
As each item on your Reiki list receives the maximum healing it’s capable of receiving at that time, the all-knowing and wise Reiki will automatically stop flowing to it and focus itself on the other items on your list.
I personally go through my Reiki flash cards I’ve made with each of the 33+ symbols I’m attuned to every morning and send every symbol to my Reiki list. That way, if someone needs the DNA activation Reiki symbol and I didn’t know to send it to them, they get it anyway. So nice to realize we don’t really have to know who needs what!
Goes without saying that you want to put yourself on your Reiki list. First, even. No one deserves your attention and focus more than you.
A “Reiki Bank Account”
In the Level II Reiki training class, you learn the Distance Healing Symbol. Since this Reiki symbol transcends space and time, once you are attuned to it, you can send Reiki healing energy forward into the “future” and back into the “past”.
While you can definitely use the Distance Healing Symbol to heal the past issues we all have – I don’t know anyone who’s exempt – why not also use this symbol to focus on what you want to bring into your life and send a lil’ positive Reiki energy forward in that direction?
Opening your very own “Reiki bank account” is a great way to “plan ahead” for your future.
First, set the intention before you turn on your Reiki that you will be sending this energy to any time in the future you need it. Next, draw the Distance Healing Reiki symbol and send it to any situations you know are coming up as well as any and all others you aren’t aware of yet. You can focus the Reiki on your future self five, ten, or twenty years from now, or you can put it away for those times you need some extra Reiki in your life.
It’s nice to send the Reiki to yourself before you’re actually in a challenging situation, since when you’re in it in it, all the ways you know how to help yourself with Reiki often go straight out the window.
If you know the Reiki symbols for Infinite Grace, Manifestation or Grounding (to ground the Reiki into this 3rd dimensional reality,) you can add these symbols and any others to your bank account “deposit” to help “accrue” awareness and consciousness with ease and grace.
What to look for in a portable Reiki table
Here are a couple articles about this very topic that you can peruse:
Before you look for the perfect Reiki table, think about whether you need a portable Reiki table or a stable one. That decision will narrow down your search and let you know if you should look for a Reiki table with metal or wood legs. You can also ask any massage therapists or Reiki practitioners you know how they feel about their Reiki tables and for any recommendations they have.
My all-time favorite tables are EarthLite Reiki tables. I even wrote an article about the EarthLite brand! Their philosophy and their tables are just the best.
I particularly love EarthLite’s commitment to this beautiful planet of ours. They have a Plant a Tree Promise that they will plant a tree for every wood massage or Reiki table they make. What can I say, EarthLite Reiki tables = Good in my eyes.

So, there you have it! A brief (well, not really) description of what Reiki healing energy is, how you can heal with Reiki, what to look for in a Reiki training class, information about online Reiki classes and so on.
I feel so lucky that I get to spread the word about Reiki and teach people how to empower and heal themselves. What a gift and a privilege. Thank you for trusting me to share this beautiful healing practice with you.
Just for today, may we trust that life works. May we let go of the illusion of control, know a deep peace, be grateful, do our dharma work here and be kind to every living thing. Just for today, may we embody the five Reiki principles that Dr. Mikao Usui gave us as best we can. As long as we do our best, that’s enough. More than enough, actually.
Whether you want to take an online Reiki class, get ideas for how to add Reiki into your everyday life or share your experiences with this community, you’re in the right place. Glad you are here : )
