“Kindle the Light in yourself, then kindle it in others – one by one” ~ Babaji
What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced ray-kee), is a Japanese healing technique developed by Dr. Mikao Usui in 1904. The term Reiki means ‘universal life force energy’. This healing energy flows through a Reiki practitioner once he or she has been attuned to the healing Reiki energy, usually in Reiki training classes and courses.
A Reiki student who has been opened up to this energy is then able to act as a conduit for the healing energy to flow to themselves, other people and situations or objects. Virtually anything can be given Reiki!
Though the Reiki energy is not limited by space or time, when a Reiki master gives an in-person Reiki treatment, they often place their hands in different positions on or over the body. Therefore, many people refer to Reiki as hands-on-healing.
Who Developed Reiki?
Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist, developed Reiki in 1904 as he looked for a way to heal people like Buddha and Christ did. (We’re grateful to him for doing so!)
After Dr. Usui fell severely ill from an illness that swept through Kyoto and almost died, he became determined to develop a spiritual healing practice that could cure any disease and be easily taught to anyone.
He went to Mt. Kurama-yama near Kyoto, where Dr. Usui spend 21 days meditating on life. Supposedly, during this time Dr. Usui realized the power of working with ‘ki’ (life force energy) and shaped his newfound knowledge into the beautiful spiritual healing practice we call Reiki.
After returning from Mt. Kurama-yama, Dr. Usui spent seventeen years honing the practice, and rumor has it he taught over 2,000 people how to use the Reiki energy in his lifetime.
- to heal yourself
- to help others heal themselves
- on animals
- on situations (past, present and future)
The ways to use what you learn in your Reiki training class or course are virtually endless. First of all, you can use the Reiki energy to heal yourself of physical, mental and emotional issues. You can help facilitate other people’s healing, you can power up your food with Reiki, you can clear rooms or entire buildings with Reiki just as you could with sage.
We at Reiki Training Classes .org have incorporated Reiki into our lives so much that we use it at every turn.
Is there a ton of traffic on the freeway? (We do live in LA, after all.) Use the safe clearing Reiki symbol to help clear your path.
Do you have a job interview coming up? Send Reiki ahead of time to both the interview and the people in it. Does your ankle hurt? Send healing Reiki energy to it, and watch the time it takes for your ankle to heal decrease a lot.
Time and time again, without fail we see the intelligent Reiki energy work its healing magic. That’s why we created a site dedicated to Reiki training classes and courses. Everyone should be attuned to the powerful Reiki energy. The world would be a much better place.
What to look for in a Reiki training class or course
The article How to Find the Right Online Reiki Course goes into further detail, but there are a few things you definitely want to look for. You want to make sure you get a good feeling from the teacher, that the price works for you, that you’ve decided whether you want to go with an online Reiki class or an in-person one, and if you can hear testimonials from previous Reiki students.

Are online Reiki classes as good as Reiki courses in-person?
Though some Reiki Masters feel that Reiki attunements must be passed down in person, many Masters offer classes online and from a distance. The Reiki energy is not limited by time or space, so technically an attunement from an online Reiki class should work just as well as an in-person attunement. We discuss the pros and cons in Taking Reiki Classes Online – The Pros and Cons.
What to bring to your Reiki training course
- you, yourself and an open mind
- comfortable clothes, i.e. no tight belts or pants that restrict your breath and would prevent the healing Reiki energy from flowing through you
- clean feet – you’ll take off your shoes during the class Reiki attunements
- pictures or objects to send Reiki to – only if your Reiki Master teaching the Reiki training suggests. (We like to have our students imbue objects with healing Reiki energy or send Reiki long-distance to people in photos during our Level II Reiki training classes.
What to look for in a portable Reiki table
Now you know we have an article on this very topic, right? What can we say, we did our homework. Please read How to Find the Best Portable Reiki Table. But we will give some quick pointers here when looking for a portable Reiki table:

Our favorite portable Reiki Table
- Decide if you want a metal or wood portable Reiki table
- Ask any massage therapists and Reiki masters you know about their portable tables
- Go with an EarthLite Reiki table! Okay, so we promised ourselves we would be impartial. But we couldn’t resist. We find the Earthlite Reiki tables superior to the rest. We especially love their commitment to this beautiful planet of ours.
EarthLite even has a ‘Plant a Tree Promise’ that they will plant a tree for every one wood massage table they make. Wow. What can we say, EarthLite Reiki tables = good in our eyes.
Now, of course the Reiki attunement process you will go through in your Reiki course will vary according to the Level, type of Reiki, whether you are taking a Reiki class online, etc. Moreover, each Reiki Master creates the space and adds in additional tools they feel enhance the attunement.
However, there are some commonalites. For the purposes of consistency, let’s look at an in-person Reiki attunement now rather than one you might find in an online Reiki course.
Typically, the Reiki master attuning you will advise you to take off your shoes and sit in an upright position. He or she may create a sacred space using tools such as healing sage, music, dim lighting, etc. Next, they will ask you to close your eyes as they perform the Reiki attunement. You will probably feel some air going into your head and their hands touching your hands and feet.
Reiki attunements can happen very quickly, in about five minutes, or they can last for a half an hour. You may feel powerful sensations as your body opens up to the Universal Life Force energy, or you may feel nothing. Afterward, you may feel energized, or completely drained.
Just know that whatever you feel is exactly what you’re supposed to be feeling. We always get what we need. (Even if it doesn’t always feel that way!) You are always on your path. So be happy your path includes Reiki!
Unfortunately, we can’t really go into more detail about how the healing Reiki energy is transmitted. That knowledge is reserved for Reiki Masters. So take a Master Reiki training course when you feel ready why don’t you…
What to expect from your Reiki training class attunement
Now, there is no easy way to say this. The Reiki energy is so loving, and so light, that it will bring to the surface that within you that is not of the same frequency so you can heal it and transform that energy into positivie energy.
(Because remember, energy never ‘dies’. It merely becomes transmuted and changes from one frequency to another.)
So, without further ado, we bring to you the Reiki attunement ‘healing process’. Trust us, it is not as bad as it seems!
The 21 day Reiki attunement ‘Healing Process’ you may go through
As the Reiki energy circulates through your body over the next few months, your body will be majorly adjusting. Many Reiki practitioners have experienced strong emotions and healing during the first 21 days following their attunement. But you may not. The powerful, wise Reiki energy knows when you are ready to heal.
Since our bodies have seven major chakras, or energy centers, during this 21 day post-Reiki attunement period it is said that the Reiki circulates through each of the chakras for three days.
So, for example, as the Reiki energy circulates through your Manipura chakra, (your chakra of personal power, will and self-esteem), you may have any issues surrounding these areas arise.
Most of us here can attest to the 21 day healing, and were shocked at how the Reiki energy really did move like clockwork every three days to the next chakra (and corresponding issues.) But you will get through it! It is extremely temporary, and just knowing you are going through this process will hopefully make it easier. One woman here didn’t know about the 21 day period until we explained it to her! She had to go through the 21 days thinking she was crazy.
Therefore, we want to make sure you know about the possibility, but also that you stay open to the fact you may not experience it. Either way, know you are healing in some way.
Tips to get through your Reiki attunement
Though the days following your Reiki attunement from your Reiki course may be challenging, use these tips to not only survive, but thrive. It is possible!
1. Keep a journal about your experiences.
Writing is therapeutic in so many ways. It helps you get your feelings out, out, out so they’re not stored in your body as energy blockages you don’t want.
2. Talk to the Reiki Master teaching your Reiki training class.
Whether your Reiki training is in-person or an online Reiki class, you should still have the full support of the Reiki Master teaching the Reiki course. They have undoubtedly gone through the same process you are, and your Reiki class should include their support as part of the deal. Getting imput from someone who has been there and gotten through it can be quite valuable.
3. Interact in our Reiki community forum! (which is coming very, very soon)
By sharing your experiences with other people going through the same thing, you will find the support and encouragement you need. You will receive feedback from other Reiki practitioners on how they got through their Reiki attunements, and may discover ways of coping you never even thought of.
4. Remember that this too shall pass
Although that isn’t always enough when you are going through something, hopefully you can take comfort in the fact that the only constant is change. When you’re upset, that is never your final emotion. (Likewise when you are happy!) So try and remember as best you can that you are healing, that yes, you will get through this, and that you will be so much stronger and healthier on the other side.
Adding Reiki Crystal Healing to your Reiki course training
Crystals such as the amethyst to the left can be wonderful additions to the Reiki treatments you learn to give in your Reiki classes. Since each type of crystal contains a different type of healing energy, you can use the crystal associated with the particular issue you are working on and create a crystal Reiki healing sesison.
Of course, maybe you are just giving a general Reiki treatment and not treating a particular issue, chakra, or section of the body. No worries, the healing Reiki energy knows where to go! But adding crystals can only help increase the effectiveness and power of the Reiki
You may want to create a crystal grid under your portable Reiki table before you start the Reiki session, or perhaps even place the crystals on the recipient’s body during the Reiki crystal healing treatment.
The seven main chakras in our bodies each correspond to a particular color, so if you’re unsure of which crystals would best accompany your crystal Reiki healing session, you can always put a crystal that’s the same color as that chakra in your grid when you first begin to utilize the magical power of crystals.
Sometimes, a crystal may be appropriate for the beginning of a session, but as the time passes, it no longer feels necessary. Use your intuition and discretion to remove the crystal from the grid, doing so in a gentle fashion so as not to disturb the existing energy. Perhaps the person receiving the Reiki fully absorbed all the healing properties the stone had to offer. Regardless of how you use the crystals in your Reiki crystal healing session, we bet that once you start, you will use them in all your Reiki treatments to come. We do!
Sometimes, if we don’t have a crystal on hand and get the hit to use it in a Reiki session, we visualize ourselves leaving our bodies, going home to get the crystal and bringing it back to be used in the Reiki crystal healing session. After all, as you learn in Reiki healing classes, your intention is what matters.
Use aromatherapy to enhance your Reiki course teachings
Aromatherapy has been used for thousands of years to help heal countless ailments. Peppermint, for example, is very beneficial for headaches or for feeling more alert.
If you are about to perform a Reiki session and your clients arrives noticeably stressed out and anxious, perhaps some soothing lavender oil will do the trick and calm their minds. (You can always send your clients Reiki when they are en route to come see you, by the way.) But always make sure your client isn’t allergic to the oil you want to use and ask them beforehand if they’d like to receive the aromatherapy.
The Five Reiki principles
Dr. Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki, also gave us five wonderful principles to abide by in the practice of Reiki:
- Just for today, I will not be angry. Letting go of anger brings peace.
- Just for today, I will not worry. Letting go of worry brings healing.
- Just for today, I will be grateful. Being grateful brings contentment.
- Just for today, I will do my work honestly. Doing honest work brings purpose.
- Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing. Being kind brings love into your life.
Creating a sacred space for your Reiki sessions
Hopefully your Reiki training course or class was taught in a relaxing, healing environment. If you had the luxury of learning William Rand’s style of Reiki in Hawaii, for example, it almost certainly was. (Can you tell we have Kauai on the brain?). But even if your Reiki class isn’t taught here:

Sedona - a vortex of healing
or here:
Your Reiki training class should still be taught in a relaxed setting. Luckily, sacred space can be created virtually anywhere! Hopefully your Reiki master instructor created sacred space for your Reiki courses and taught you how to create sacred space when you work on your own Reiki clients. Even if not, low lighting, crystal salt lamps and grids, small water fountains, aromatherapy, candles and relaxing music can work wonders. You want your Reiki sessions to be conducted in an environment where your clients feel safe, supported and away from the worries of the day.
Before sending Reiki, you always want to use the disclaimer beforehand. (Which you should have learned in your Reiki class!) You can call out the specific person or situation you want to send the Reiki too specifically, or you can use a generic disclaimer such as, “Anything and everything, anything and everything, anything and everything. You are free to accept or reject the Reiki energy. Reiki is healing, harmonizing and balancing.”
By using the disclaimer, you ensure that you don’t accrue any karma by sending energy to someone or something who doesn’t want to receive it. If you believe in karma, that is. Which we do.
Use your Reiki course training to work on animals
You will probably be hard-pressed to find an animal who doesn’t love Reiki. Since animals don’t have the same resistance to healing that many of us do (thanks to our good ole’ egos), most animals are very receptive to receiving the healing energy.
1. Notice if they’re receptive to the Reiki energy. Are they hissing, growling or running away? If so, the animal is letting you know it doesn’t want to be touched. Now this doesn’t mean you still can’t send it long-distance Reiki using the symbol from your Reiki Level II training class, or course.
2. If you are sending an animal Reiki and they suddenly change positions or lift their head to look at you, this could very well be a sign they want the Reiki energy focused on a different area of their body. Or perhaps you were touching them, and now they’d prefer you to keep your hands a few inches above them. As all of us with pets know, animals can definitely get their point across!

We at Reiki Training Classes do teach our Level I Reiki training students these two symbols and a couple more in the Level I training because we want the students to get used to incorporating symbols into their Reiki sessions.
Master Level Reiki Classes
In a Master Level healing Reiki training class, you are attuned with all the symbols and are taught how to attune others. After this Reiki course, you will know how to give permanent attunements, temporary attunements, and deepen your Reiki practice even further.
In our Master Level Reiki courses we teach multiple traditions and attune our students with symbols from traditional Usui Reiki, William Rand Reiki, Tibetan Reiki, Karuna Reiki and Seichem Reiki, among others. We want our Reiki class students to have the full array of tools to use in their healing sessions.
With the Master Reiki class attunement also comes responsibility. Even if you decide not to attune others or teach Reiki courses yourself, you still have a responsibility to practice Reiki in your own way and help spread the healing Reiki energy. Which you will want to, of course. Because in addition to being healing, harmonizing and balancing, sending Reiki is fun!
Reiki Lists
While of course we wish we had all the time in the world to send Reiki to everyone and everything we know needs it, in our busy lives we often aren’t able to find the time to do so. Let alone remember everyone we want to send Reiki to! So what you can do is write a Reiki list of everything you want to send Reiki healing energy to, and then set the intention as you turn on your Reiki that everything on your list will receive the Reiki healing as needed.
As each person, item or situation on your list receives the maximum Reiki healing they are capable of for that day, the sage Reiki will automatically stop flowing to that person and move on to the next item on the Reiki list.
We also keep a list of all the Reiki symbols and send them to the list each day, so as not to forget any. Perhaps someone can use the forgiveness symbol! You never know. And of course, remember to put yourself on your list. No one deserves the healing Reiki energy more than you do.

I just thought you might want to know that your blog looks messed when I see it on my iphone. Im not sure if it has something to do with my phones browser or your website? just saying
Thanks for your comment, Eddie. We are the first ones to admit that our skill sets lie more in the realm of spirituality, Reiki and healing than computers. We will forward this on to our IT guy and see if he can fix it!
I enjoy coming back daily to see your thoughts about Reiki. I must admit that I was very skeptical at first, especially since I am trained in traditional Western medicine. But after seeing the great improvement my sister made after her diagnosis with Reiki, I have become much more open to alternative methods of healing. I have your blog bookmarked on my daily read list!
Dr. Hensler,
We greatly appreciate your taking the time to share how your view on Reiki has changed. Thank you thank you thank you! We love for the students in our Reiki training courses to hear from skeptics who have since ‘seen the light’, or ‘light energy’ I guess we should say regarding Reiki. Virtually every teacher here has also gone through a period of skepticism or uncertainty and thought to himself or herself, “Does Reiki really work?” “Am I crazy or making it up?” But after the healing Reiki energy proves itself time and time again, there is simply no choice but to believe. We have added your sister to our Reiki healing list, and look forward to continuing to share the news about this powerful healing energy.
hi all,
i just had my reiki I attunement online. i could absolutely 100% feel the energy coming in. i was a little skeptical at first, but now i am a believer about the reiki energy moving through space and time. if anyone is thinking about taking online Reiki classes, i say go for it.
take care,
jay
Great news, Jay! Last time we heard from you, you were contemplating taking a Reiki class online versus on in-person. We are so happy to hear that you are happy with your decision to take Reiki classes online. If you need any support from those who have been through the Reiki attunement and not only survived but thrived, please let us know! We are happy to help out a fellow Reiki practitioner and send him or her this healing energy. Just say the word.
Cheers,
The team at Reiki Training Classes
I am working on this. Just for today, I will not be angry. Just for today, I will not be angry. Just for today, I will not be angry. The five Reiki principles really speak to me. Great site.
Hi Paul,
Good, we are glad to hear that. The Reiki principles are extremely powerful, aren’t they? We understand that it can be easier said than done to live by them, however. But by wanting to and setting your intention there, you are taking the first step. We have an article in the queue on tips to live by these principles every day. Stay tuned. If you are having difficulty with anger (which is very common, who doesn’t?), get it out. Getting your anger out how you need to in a constructive way is really helpful. Go beat a pillow, go to the batting cages, hit a punching bag or scream at the top of your lungs in your car. Write a letter to the person, or even just write words on a piece of paper to rip up when you’re finished. The words don’t have to make sense, and no need to reread them and take them back in. Just get it out, and fill up that space with Reiki energy by using the power symbol when you’re done. Good luck Paul.
After reading this article, I browsed your website a bit and would love to see an article on what a Reiki treatment would look like from start to finish. I am interested in getting a Reiki session, but I want to know what to expect. If you write an article like this, will you please let me know? Thank you.
Hi Florentina Maria,
Thanks for your suggestion. We will definitely write an article about Reiki treatments and what to expect! The reason we haven’t written one yet is because we focus more on Reiki treatments and sessions from the perspective of the Reiki student learning this healing energy. We strive to provide prospective Reiki students who plan to take online Reiki classes and in-person courses with valuable insight for their journey. But hey, nothing wrong with writing about what to do in a Reiki treatment, right? We will email you when the article is ready to go!
The crew at Reiki Training Classes
Hi Reiki Training Classes,
I noticed that you don’t offer online Reiki classes yet. Do you have any recommendations about where I can find the best ones? I live in Minnesota.
Mahalia
Hi Mahalia,
You’re right. We don’t offer online Reiki courses yet, keyword being yet. We are working on it! To tell you the truth, we don’t have any specifically to recommend, since we are trying to remain objective and offer information to prospective Reiki students and practitioners alike. That being said, you want to go with a Reiki master that resonates with you and you feel good about. For further info, read our article How To Find the Right Online Reiki Course for You. Since we humans operate under the Law of Attraction, rest assured that you will attract the right teacher for you. Worst case scenario, if you end up having a bad experience (which we certainly hope isn’t the case!) you will learn valuable lessons. Everything that happens in our lives is working toward our best interests, even if we can’t always see that. Good luck!
The team at Reiki Training Classes
Wow, great article! Well-written, informative and eye-opening. Will definitely be checking out your website more in the future
Thanks, Darla! Yes, please continue to come back for more… we update the website regularly.
Would you recommend taking an online Reiki class that is promising a Master Level attunement in one day? Thanks
Hi Tari,
Great question. Of course our answer really depends on the feeling you get about the Reiki Master teacher the Reiki course, whether the attunement is online or in-person, if the teacher will be available to you afterward, etc. However, in our personal experience, we have found that a Reiki Master Level training that is taught over the course of a few weeks definitely has worked best. By meeting with your Reiki instructor and sharing observations with the class, if you are going through the cleansing process that happens so often after an attunement, you will have the support you need. Also, we find that most students learn experientially, or by doing. And ‘doing’ in this situation involves coming to class, hearing other students’ experiences, practicing giving attunements to one another. Since you learn how to attune others in many Master Level Reiki trainings, you will definitely want to practice, and longer classes give you the time for the knowledge and confidence to sink in.
Long answer, huh? ; )
So in a nutshell, if you feel the one-day Reiki master class is right for you, then go for it! But if you can find a longer Reiki course spread out over a few weeks, we encourage you to perhaps choose that option instead. Good luck!!!
Reiki Training Classes
Cool beans. I’ve never heard of a Reiki bank account before, and I’ve taken Reiki classes all the way to the Master level.
We agree Shawn. Why not tuck away a lil Reiki somethin somethin for a rainy day?
A million thanks for starting your Reiki site. When I first started doing Reiki, I had a hard time not feeling guilty because 90% of the time I was working on myself. I have gotten better, and reading your information helps me realize that I must work on myself before I can help others.
You’re absolutely right, Anabelle. It is natural to feel that guilt, since many healers get into the profession because they are caring, giving individuals. Also, they often have something to heal within themselves and that is why they are drawn to the work. So, rest assured that if you feel the need to work on yourself, it is for a reason. You will be so happy you did. Your future clients will too. The clearer a channel or transducer that you are for the Reiki energy, the easier it can pass through you and into the recipient during Reiki sessions and treatments. In the beginning, right after a Reiki attunement, you will need to work on yourself! All the old ‘stuff’ is coming up and out so you can release it. Though we want to thank it for how it served us (perhaps in the past, or even if it just brought us to the healer path), it is time to let it go. So hey, work on yourself to your heart’s content! Work on yourself, work on the world. ~ A Reiki Training Classes original,
Beautiful! Thank you for a beautiful Reiki website. Love you.
What a beautiful comment Darla. Thank you : ) We love you too. Because in the end, love is all there is, right? We wish you all the best on your Reiki path and healing journey.
Thank you for talking about the Reiki healing process. I definitely went through some crazy stuff after I got attuned and I didn’t expect that at all. Glad to see that it’s normal lol.
Hi Evan,
Yes, the natural cleansing process we undergo after a Reiki attunement is not only normal, but to be expected. Reiki students may not feel it immediately after the attunement, but over the course of the next year, even, let’s say, they general will feel it. Like we said in the article, though it’s not pleasant at the time, you are releasing old, limiting beliefs and energy blockages that will help you tremendously in living a healthier and happier life. The cleansing process is worth it.
Thanks for your comment!
The Reiki Masters
I have found that creating a crystalline grid underneath my Reiki table greatly enhances the sensations my clients feel. Regardless of which stones I bring, I always put black tourmaline under the table in alignment with the clients’ root chakra. I find that the tourmaline always helps keep them grounded and present.
Thanks for sharing, Nina! That is great advice that we are sure our readers can benefit from. We personally have an abundance of hematite and thus use this metallic stone for grounding. We find that it really helps people stay in their bodies, especially since it can be quite tempting to leave when things get uncomfortable! But, as we all know, the healing happens when we stay present to whatever is happening in our body and whatever we are feeling. Only then can we release this emotional energy out of our bodies and energy fields and create space for more beneficial energies (and emotions and situations!) to enter. We will be writing a post shortly that discusses the various stones Reiki practitioners can put under their Reiki tables during sessions, but in the meantime and between time, does anyone else have a stone they use for a particular chakra? Do tell, do tell!
The Reiki Training Classes Crizzew
Thanks for talking about what happens after a Reiki attunement. I have gone through considerable changes in the last year because of my attunement. Is it normal for the process to last so long?
It is entirely normal, Derek, even to be expected. While there many reports of those first 21 days following a Reiki attunement being particularly challenging, your entire system is reformulating itself to transmit the Reiki energy. We have undergone amazing changes since our Reiki attunements here, and they were years ago! But remember that you are always changing for the better, as you are healing. And the Reiki energy is helping you to heal. We wish you all the best Derek.

My favorite suggestion you have during the time of your vibration rising is that This Too Shall Pass. Easy words, though they are not always that easy to apply to your life.
Hi Eagle Heart,
First of all, you have a beautiful name. We are sure it fits you to a tee. You are so right that remembering ‘this too shall pass’ during a crisis is not exactly an easy task. But what peace of mind it can bring. It helps you recall previous times in your life when you have gotten through rough patches and been all the stronger for them. The phrase also reminds us of the Law of Impermanence that governs all things in this Universe we live in. When something comes up, it is coming up so it can be healed.
All the love to you Eagle Heart.
Reiki Training Classes.
Can your state of mind influence a Reiki session?
Hi Svetlana,
We assume you are referring to the Reiki practitioner’s state of mind, yes? You probably are, since this is a website focusing on Reiki classes and courses. So, the answer is a bit complicated. To look at it from a quantum physicist’s perspective, the answer would be yes, since everything affects everything. For example, there is such a thing in Quantum Physics as ‘the Observer effect’. Physicists have seen that just be an object being observed by someone, the molecules and atoms of that object change. So, it would stand to reason that the Reiki practioner’s state of mind during the session would influence the entire session, including the Reiki energy.
However, have you ever heard of the ‘Wounded Healer’? Many great healers out there are attracted to the profession because of a deep need to heal something within themselves. And they are still able to perform amazing work, even if they haven’t fully healed something within themselves. In addition, the intelligent Reiki enery will only work for the highest good of all concerned, so were it to be negatively affected by the practitioner’s state of mind, we would think it would turn off.
Here’s what we suggest: Since your intention is so powerful, if you find yourself feeling bad and you have to do a session, simply put the intention out there that your session will offer healing to the client irrespective of your emotional state. Best of luck to you Svetlana.
Reiki Training Classes
Hi Reiki Masters,
I am a little confused. If Reiki energy only works for the highest good, then why would I have to do the disclaimer? Why would someone possibly reject hte energy? Thanks.
Hi Adam,
Great question, thanks for asking.
Yes, it is true that the healing Reiki energy will only work for the highest good of all concerned. But at the same time, we have this pesky little thing called ‘Free Will’ that is alive and well in the Universe. Each human being has free will to live their lives as they want, which can be viewed as both a blessing and a curse. For example, perhaps someone knows deep inside, perhaps subconsciously, that they are just not ready to meet their person yet. Perhaps they want to get some of their issues worked out beforehand. They may know that if they were to meet someone now, the person they attract wouldn’t be the best person for them long-term, since we attract people who are at the same level we are. This Reiki client may resist the Reiki symbol that speeds up manifestation, because they know subconsciously they are not ready.
You always want to do the disclaimer before every Reiki session, however, in order to ensure that you do not accrue any negative karma for ‘forcing’ a healing on someone or something. Even though the person can always reject the healing and the energy if they choose to, you will have to balance that karmic energy regardless. So by doing the Reiki disclaimer before every Reiki treatment, you ensure that you don’t. And, although not all karma is bad, in this case it would be ‘negative’, and who wants to accrue more karma anyway? Certainly not us!
We hope that adequately answered your question, Adam!

i was looking for info on online reiki classes, and your site is really very informative about them and reiki. i have a much better idea about what to look for now. please keep writing and sharing your knowledge.

The Reiki Training Classes Teachers
Blessings and Greetings to All. Reiki is a very advanced spiritual practice that every person can carry out and greatly improve their life. I am very pleased that Reiki has taken off in the course of the past few years. It looks as though it will continue to grow too. Great news for us as the time has come for a new way of thinking and living to exist on the Earth Plane.
Yes, yes, yes Adam. We completely agree with you. This Earth (and the people on it) are definitely changing. Sometimes at the speed of light it seems! Thank you for your very insightful and eloquent comment. We can feel the love you have for humanity coming through your words.

Getting Reiki has made my life much better. I’ve always believed that life is what you make it, but it can’t hurt to have a little help from up above, seen.
Irie Dawta,
You are absolutely right. While that is true, life is what we make it (and this is a beautiful life), the Universal Life Force Energy that flows during Reiki sessions has such a beneficial and balancing effect on our bodies. It really is a miraculous healing system we have been blessed with. Why not take advantage? Wink wink.
I am a waitress and I put Reiki symbols over all my tables. The other waitresses complain about low tips, but I always seem to do just fine!
Great idea, Shenandoah! You have a beautiful name, by the way. That is very smart. Imagine what would happen if you even put Reiki into each dish that you serve or intended at the start of your shift that all the food you serve contributes to your customers’ health? Just an idea…
Saved as a favorite, I really like your website!
Thanks Nolan! We like it too
I learned in my online Reiki class that you should always ask the person you’re sending Reiki to if they want you to touch them or not. Just a tip.
Hi Gavin, yes, you are right, that is an important step to take before a Reiki session. In our touch-deprived society, many people are uncomfortable with being touched, unfortunate as it is.
Although most people who seek out Reiki treatments understand that some light touching may be involved, you still always want to ask your client “May I touch you?” at the beginning of the session. This is particularly useful is you are out doing Reiki outreach at a hospital or elderly center, for example. With strangers, you always want to respect their comfort levels. Even if someone doesn’t want to be touched, kudos to him or her for accepting the Reiki energy! Everyone will come around, sooner or later…
Good luck with your Reiki practice, Gavin!

My new favorite site. Finally someone is writing about things that matter. A thousand thanks
Wow, thanks so much Karen! We understand, when we find a new website with information we don’t know, it’s so exciting! Glad we can do that for another human being. A thousand ‘you’re welcomes…”

Does the 21 Day Reiki Attunement hell haha start from the first chakra and go up or the other way around?
Hi Shelby,
Great question. In our experience, it started with the crown chakra and worked its way down. Which makes sense, since attunements happen at the crown.
However, and unfortunately we must stress this, the 21 days is no hard and fast rule. If emotions and stored energy is coming up that a person has suppressed for years, it often takes more than 21 days to fully clear. Some of our healing processes took well over a year.
At the same time, however, more and more we are finding that life is as easy or as hard as we make it out to be. We are the cause of our suffering, which is good news, since we can be the solution as well. What if life was easy and we could be healed simultaneously? (Not that any of us here have managed to maintain that full sense of trust all the time, mind you ; ) ) But it’s something to strive for…
Thank you for this information. It helped a lot.
Sure thing, Henry!
How do I know when my Reiki clients have gotten all the energy they need? What I mean is, how do I know when a Reiki session is over? Thank you for your response.
Hi Wendy,
Intuitively, you will know. We hope that isn’t too annoying of an answer for you! ; ) But while your Higher Self may know when the session is over, the you in your body giving the session may have a harder time. So… here are a couple tips:
1. Have you ever been giving a Reiki session and the client suddenly feels much cooler to you? Like there is hardly any energy left. They may be experiencing what we call the “Reiki cool”, where they have received all the healing Reiki energy their body can handle at that time. So if you feel a noticeable cooling in the client’s energy field, this is a strong sign the session is complete.
2. If you have booked a client for a one-hour Reiki session, you can set the intention before the session that the client receive all the Reiki energy and healing they need within that hour time frame. Then, you have to trust and have faith that that will be the case. If the hour finishes and you still feel the energy flowing, you can ask the client if he or she wants you to continue, or to end the session. Because, remember, you have your boundaries too that need to be respected. If you are receiving payment for a one-hour session and go beyond that, you should get paid for it.
3. Finally, something we often do here is to set the intention that the client will continue to receive the healing and Reiki they need even once the session comes to an end. That way, Spirit is handling it. (As it does everything, really.
And it is out of your hands. (As is most everything, really.)
Hi,
I just finished my Level 2 Reiki class. I still don’t feel my hands getting hot though, and a lot of other people in my class did. Is that normal?
Thanks,
Pariva
Hi Pariva,
Yes, that is perfectly okay and normal. While many Reiki practitioners feel their hands head up while sending Reiki, others don’t at all. One of our Reiki Masters here has ice-cold hands when she sends ReikI! And still, anyone who has had a session with her can account for the strength of the energy she sends. So worry not about your hands heating up. That has nothing to do with it.
Good luck, Pariva, hope that helped!
Reiki Training Classes Crew
I love love love Reiki. Just had to say it!
We second that emotion, sister!!!
Hey guys,
My question is this: Is it normal not to learn any symbols at all in a First Degree online Reiki class? I saw one that looks good, but they don’t say anything about learning any symbols in it. It’s not until the Second Degree that they mention some symbols.
Cheers,
Holly
Hi Holly,
Since Reiki is not currently regulated (which we are happy for to tell you the truth, who wants the government involved in who can and cannot practice Reiki?), the curriculum of the online Reiki classes out there varies to a great degree.
While we teach a few symbols such as the Power Symbol and the Love Symbol in our Reiki Level One classes, as you’ve seen others do not. The type of Reiki the online class is attuning you to matters as well.
We would advise this, go with a Reiki Master Instructor and training program that feels right instead of thinking about whether you will get all the symbols or not. Particularly if you plan to move forward and get further attunements, which you should definitely do!
Good luck Holly!
How do you know that Reiki works? I am having a crisis of faith. Sometimes I believe in it, sometimes I don’t. I’m not attuned but my brother does Reiki on me.
Mandy
Hi Mandy,
That’s normal. Who doesn’t go through a crisis of faith every now and then? In our personal experiences, we believe in the healing power of Reiki and know it works because of our firsthand experiences with it. Try getting an attunement, and then coming home and having all the electricity in your house go out because your vibration has changed!
In our experience, when people first learn a new healing modality like Reiki, they sometimes think it is a cure-all for the problems in their lives. And while healing blessings like Reiki definitely have their place, once the novelty has worn off, people feel a little less-excited about them or start to question their validity.
We would suggest thinking about how you feel when your brother does Reiki on you. Can you feel it? Do you feel relaxed, peaceful, or maybe even agitated? Any of these emotions (and a multitude of others) would suggest that the Reiki is being transmitted. Just know that your doubt is normal, and will likely pass.
I just signed up for a Reiki class! Your website really encouraged me. Thank you thank you.
Good for you Elena! We know you will love being a Reiki practitioner.
Hi Reiki Masters!
Is there any other way to create sacred space besides the ones you say, like candles and crystals?
Thanks!
Kristy
Hi Kristy,
There are an unlimited number of ways you can make a space sacred: with candles and crystals as we mentioned; with sage; with your intention “By the I am that I am, I declare this space sacred”; by calling in the 7 Directions as some Native American tribes do; by asking that Spirit clear any negative energy from the room, etc.
We look forward to hearing the creative ways you come up with!
The Reiki Training Classes Team
I don’t know if I buy into all this Reiki, but I like your pictures and site design nonetheless.
Fair enough, Peter. Thank you for the compliment about our site. We encourage you to get a Reiki session and see for yourself before seeing if Reiki is for you.
I am so glad you are recommending that people keep a journal about their experiences after getting attuned to Reiki. I just looked at mine from two years ago, and I had completely forgotten about all the crazy things that happened after my attunements, I am now a Reiki Master. I highly, highly recommend it.
Yes, Debra, we completely agree. You forget, and go about your daily life. It is quite easy to compartmentalize your spiritual being with the practicalities of everyday existence. But a journal can be invaluable in helping you remember. We second your recommendation.
Hi,
Would you recommend a regular online Reiki class or a Kundalini Reiki one?
Thanks, Sara
Hi Sara,
By ‘regular online Reiki class ‘, do you mean an Usui Reiki one? If you are brand-new to Reiki and are getting your first attunement, we would probably suggest you go with an Usui Reiki online class. While Kundalini Reiki definitely has its place in the Reiki world, why not start with a solid foundation in the Reiki lineage of Dr. Usui?
But really, can you really go wrong with a Reiki class? We think not. ; )
My brother suggested I might like this web site. He was so right. Reading about Reiki actually made my day. You can not imagine how much time I’ve waited to learn about Reiki, and now I am looking on the Internet and finding websites like yours. Thank you!
Your welcome Mona! Sounds like you could really benefit from taking a Reiki class or training, too. Sometimes we become so interested in a particular subject because it’s Spirit’s way of giving us a nudge in the right direction. Just an idea…
How does Reiki work with massage? I am almost finished getting my massage license, and am thinking about taking a Reiki class too. I live in Seattle. Thanks.
Hi Rich,
Reiki is an excellent complementary modality to massage therapy. Many Reiki Masters we know are also massage therapists, and vice versa. When you know Reiki, you can always turn it on at the beginning of a massage to give your client a double dose of healing. We highly recommend it! The Scorpio energy of Seattle too is an excellent place to receive an attunement.
Hey, thanks for your website. Just had my Reiki one attunement yesterday, so I’ll see how it goes.
You are welcome, John. We look forward to hearing your experiences as they progress, and are excited for this healing path you are taking.
I have been an Usui Reiki Master and Holistic Health Practitioner for many years. As I help my clients become empowered, I always try to walk the talk too. My own life is constantly evolving, just like theirs. I see your website as an inspiring place for Reiki masters and practitioners alike to share their thoughts and ideas on many different levels. Please keep up the good work. As Reiki Masters, we need to get Reiki healing out there in hospitals and medical offices.
Aloha,
Matt
Hi Matt,
Great comment. Yes, more Reiki in medical offices and hospitals certainly would be a great thing, wouldn’t it? Reiki everywhere would be ideal, really…
Thank you for being who you are,
The Reiki Masters
Great explanation of Reiki!
Thanks Jenna!
As I learned it, Reiki helps the body move into homeostasis, or balance. Therefore, as it moves into balance, it will naturally get rid of all that doesn’t comply with that balance. This explains the post-attunement process most people go through.
Hi Brian,
Yes, that explanation of the post-attunement process makes sense. Ultimately, all healing is about bringing the body, mind and spirit into balance. Thank you for sharing your understanding.
Reiki Training Classes
I just stumbled upon your site through another Reiki site and your way of explaining Reiki is great. I look forward to future articles.
Good Julie, because there are many more where these came from!
This is wonderful! Thank you!
Happy you feel that way, Pam : )
I see a lot of commenters talking about the healing crisis and what happens after an attunement. I know why too, it is no joke! But worth it for how good you feel later. Stay in there, y’all.
Hi Susanna,
Thank you for your supportive comment. You are right, that healing crisis is nothing to scoff at. At the same time, knowing that you are healing provides some comfort. You are going through old wounds and hurts and experiencing them so you don’t have to again down the road. We release so much after an attunement!
Take care,
Reiki Training Courses Teachers
Thank you for sharing about the changes we go through after attunements. My Reiki teacher didn’t really explain about them, and I was left to my own devices during the healing crisis that happened afterward. Now I get it and am grateful for the experience since it helps me help the people I attune, but at the time I didn’t feel that way. I couldn’t wrap my head around why something that was supposed to heal me was hurting me. Now I see.
Good, Becky. We are glad. All Reiki students should be aware of the possibility of what may happen afterward.
What I love about Reiki personally is that there are no medical contraindications. People can get Reiki even when having to do harsh medical treatments.
Hi Bonnie,
So true! While we have had a couple cancer patients who are undergoing chemotherapy and we didn’t give Reiki to them because we didn’t want to flow energy in their bodies, you are right; there are virtually no contraindications with Reiki. Even in the case of chemotherapy, with the intention that the Reiki improves the outcome, it should be fine, but we were a bit cautious.
This is a great website. Thank you for making it.
Hi Jason, thank YOU for reading it : )
Thank you for this. As an older woman, I was brought up in system of conventional medicine, so it took me a while to believe in Reiki. But my daughter started practicing it, and made me a believer. There are still times, sometimes even now, when something happens and I want relief immediately. Sometimes it is easier to take a pill and forget about it. But now, I am learning to trust holistic doctors and see my symptoms as a healing crisis. Sometimes I even welcome them and view them as a sign of a deeper healing inside.
Marilyn
Hi Marilyn,
That is such progress. We understand how growing up in different times makes it that much harder to comprehend the alternative healing modalities that have cropped up in recent years. We salute you; your open-mindedness and willingness to try new things is something you should really be proud of.
Reiki Training Classes Teachers
Hi there, just found you on Google. I’m grateful for your site, many folks will surely benefit from what you write about. Cheers!
That is our sincere intention, Kim.
Great article. I’m very inspired! Helpful insight, especially about what happens after you get attuned.
Thanks and good luck.
Thank you Laura. All the luck to you too.
Did you find it difficult to start a Reiki practice once you became Reiki Masters? Are you able to do it full time? Thanks.
Hi Rex,
While we did experience some difficulties establishing a full-time Reiki practice, the strongest one surely had to be holding ourselves back because of fear. This Reiki article, http://www.reikitrainingclasses.org/healing-with-reiki/the-single-hardest-obstacle-to-starting-a-reiki-healing-practice/, may help clear some things up.
A couple of us do have full-time Reiki and energywork healing practices, while others are both massage therapists and Reiki practitioners. I, personally love to write, therefore the chance to contribute to the Reiki Training Classes website and write about this healing technique I love, in addition to having steady Reiki clients, have been ideal for me.
So the bottom line is this; YOU can do anything you put your mind to. If you want to have a practice that solely consists of Reiki, then do it. But give it all you’ve got. Otherwise, why bother? Sending you the manifestation symbol, Rex. Good good luck.
There are no words for how Reiki has changed my life. I healed myself, and am now in the process of healing my mother and father too. This beautiful practice and way of life is quite remarkable when I think about it. I see what I can do when I wake up and start to see with my heart instead of my eyes. Thanks so much for this website.
What a beautiful way to put that Taryn. The whole world should see with our hearts instead of our eyes. Thank you for sharing.
hello reiki masters. i was referred to your website by my sister and i am so happy she told me about it. your information is very current. carry on.
Will do, Donna!
Just wanted to remind all the Reiki practitioners out there that it is so important to keep balance in our lives. We have been blessed with the gift of Reiki, and what a gift it is. We should still remember though that we are alive and in a body for a reason. We are here to live.
Good point, Lucy. You are right, life is all about balance. Though we are spiritual beings having a human experience, we are still having a human experience! There are things we are meant to go through and work through here that can only be done on the Earth plane. It can be easy to forget that and get caught up in our spirituality, since it feels so good. Thanks for the reminder.
I love your website. Your articles make me so eager to learn more about Reiki. Thx for posting so much information. Smiles.
Smiles right back at cha Forrest
Good morning! Happy New Year and Chinese Year of the Dragon. Health, luck and love to every Reiki flower out there!
Ah, 2012, the Year of the Dragon. Many miracles can occur this year!
Reiki is an amazing system and method of healing. To all of you considering getting a Reiki attunement, go for it. I have gotten over twenty attunements to date, some in person and the rest online. Each time, I feel my ability to conduct the energy get stronger.
Blessings Reiki masters.
Thank you Rhonda. Our sentiments exactly!
A million thanks for your unique insight on Reiki.
You’re very welcome Darrin.
The Reiki Masters
Hi, I’ve been a Reiki master and energy healer for ten years. I give someone Reiki every day because I never know when it may have a positive effect on someone’s life and I don’t realize it at the time. All we need to do is the work, and trust the Reiki will do the rest.
Blessings,
Brenda
Hi Brenda,
At the end of the day, trust and faith are what it’s all about, right? And you are so right, we never know whose life we will touch with our Reiki. Thank you.
Reiki Training Classes
I had my Level 1 Reiki attunement last Saturday, and I love the path it has taken me on so far. Reading about Reiki gives me a ton of hope that Reiki and energetic healings will become much more accepted and utilized in everyday society. Light to you.
That is our sincere hope too Moby. Light right back.
Fascinating reading, thx!
I like how you write, excellent information! You articulate about Reiki very well. It makes sense to me. I mean, if we can do remote viewing and travel astrally, why shouldn’t we have the ability to heal others through time and space. The intention is what matters anyway, right? That is so true. Rock on!
Yes, Betsy, we agree. How fascinating it is that we can travel astrally and send Reiki long-distance and so forth, isn’t it? This world’s a changin as more and more people wake up… for the better, too.
It is interesting to read about Reiki. I heal using energy, but I’ve never had a Reiki attunement. I think about it sometimes, but the way I heal works for me. I see energetic blockages. My way of thinking is that that is all that counts. I will think about an online Reiki class now though.
Hi Jessie,
We highly recommend it. The energyworkers we know who got Reiki attunements after they had already been working with energy all reported improvements in their practices. Can’t hurt, eh?
The Reiki Training Classes crew
This was interesting and helpful, thanks for sharing.
Anytime Shawna!
Thank you Reiki Training Classes. Much love and light to you all.
We shine a mirror to you Amanda so the love and light reflects right off us and bounces back to you. But we will accept it too of course ; )
I would like to purchase a copy of your eBook. Do you have any idea when it will be available? Thanks!
Hi Maria Love,
We are striving for late spring. Stay posted; thanks for the encouragement that we need to get the ball rolling!
Reiki Training Classes
Thanks for that awesome posting. It saved me a LOT of time thinking about what to do next. Now I know I will just go with my gut as I look at online Reiki classes
Glad to hear that Derek. The right online Reiki class will surely find you.
I am so happy I found this website. There is so much information here for me. I have found that life seems to flow much more smoothly when we are walking the right path, and I finally feel like I am on mine. The articles here, especially about online Reiki classes, are wonderful. I feel so much positive energy and love flowing from these teachings. I really appreciate you sharing your time and energy with the entire world. Namaste.
How true, Nina. The path we are meant to walk always feels right, even when there are potholes. The light within us honors the light within you.
My dog loves Reiki too LOL. I send the lovebug Reiki when I’m at work. I know she feels it.
Well, you know what they say, Dog is God spelled backwards…
Call me crazy, but I would think you would need to do a Reiki attunement in person. All these Reiki classes online that are sprouting up seem to have forgotten a key tenet of the Usui Reiki Tradition. That is, learning from a master and observing their ways. I would think you don’t get that in a Reiki class online.
Hi Kasey,
Interesting point. While it’s true that having a mentor and in-person master can be very valuable, there are many people who have touched our lives greatly that we have never met. Paulo Coelho, Louise Hay are a couple. And since the Reiki energy isn’t limited by time and space, there are strong arguments that online Reiki classes can transmit attunements quite effectively. All a matter of personal preference we guess!
I am a six foot four black man, and most people don’t expect me to be a Reiki master. But I send Reiki to all the people I know every day. I learned it in college from an ex-girlfriend, and became hooked when I saw the results. So, remember, anyone can be a Reiki master.
That’s right Duke Johnson. Anyone can be a Reiki Master. We should think of that the next time we see a homeless person or think of those in our lives who we have the hardest time communicating with. Maybe they were a Reiki master in a previous lifetime.
Can u plz explain more about online Reiki classes? thx
Hi Einar,

Reiki Training Classes
Learning about Reiki has definitely made me feel more powerful in the world.
Good Jean. We are all such powerful beings, and need to be reminded of that from time to time.
I recently began my quest to becoming a certified Reiki Master and am taking an online Reiki class Level II in about 2 weeks. I searched locally for someone who was certified in the field of Reiki, and had a session with them first so I could connect. I suggest the same for those of you looking at online Reiki classes. Or Reiki trainings in general. Also, I have found that there are several styles of Reiki practitioners out there, however there is one source and we all work from there. Trust your intuition and let it guide you.
Best of Luck!
Anna
One Source, so true. That’s a great idea though, Anna. If possible, people should get a Reiki session from the Reiki Master teaching the course. What a perfect way to see if you like how they transmit the energy.
Good Morning,
Glad that I found this site. I would like to practice Reiki, and learn more about it. Would you be able to tell me where to begin? I’m reading your website, and just bought the book Everything Reiki from Barnes & Noble last night. I have been looking for something that resonated with me for some time now. I think it’s Reiki. I appreciate any help.
Lila
Hi Lila,
We would recommend taking a Reiki class and receiving an attunement! At the end of the day, you can read all about Reiki and know ‘facts’ about it, but until you truly experience something you can never really know it, right? So get a Reiki session, or better yet, get yourself into a class.
Good luck!
Is it really true that most people never reached the Reiki master level before the internet? I heard that in a Reiki class online I took back in the day. Thx
Hi Phil,
Well, we are not sure if the Internet was the sole catalyst in the increase of amount of Reiki Masters, but we have read that when Dr. Usui was alive, becoming a Reiki Master was much more difficult. Few attained such a level. Just one more thing we can be grateful about now, huh?
Best site on Reiki I have found to date.
Thank you Freddie, we really appreciate that.
Hi Reiki Training Classes,
First of all, great site. I love it. Please let me know when you start giving online Reiki classes and attunements. I wanted to ask how important you feel the osho symbol is. Sometimes I forget it and just start sending Reiki. Do I need to do it in order for the Reiki to start?
Looking forward to your answer,
Erin
Hi Erin,
While the Osho symbol does signify the start of a Reiki transmission, we don’t feel it is absolutely necessary all the time, no. Sometimes you pass someone in your car, and in that split second you get the urge to send them love or the power symbol so they remember how powerful they truly are. Will the transmission not work if you don’t do an Osho beforehand? We don’t think so.
This is an exceptional article about Reiki. Like the images too! Two thumbs up for a killer website.
Gracias Jenny!
I find that I pretty much only use the power symbol. It’s the easiest to remember, and everything I need. Do you think it’s necessary to use all the symbols? Thanks
Alice
Hi Alice,
That really depends. While we like to use all the symbols at our disposal, some of the Reiki Masters here use no symbols at all. They just send love and light and trust that the right energies will flow through their hands regardless of what symbol they add. If you feel right using the Power symbol, then that is exactly the symbol you should use. Each person’s Reiki practice will be unique to them.
Best of luck Alice,

Sounds good Janelle! Let us know if you have any of your own too. After all, we are a Reiki community. One energy.
